Terms
Last updated 20 October 2026
What you are signing up to, what MK will do, and what she cannot promise. Written to be read rather than skipped.
1. Who you are dealing with
Smokeshow is a matchmaking service run personally by Mary-Kate Harrington, known as MK, in London. In these terms “MK”, “we” and “us” mean her, and “you” means the person signing up.
By submitting the sign-up form you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not sign up.
2. What the service is
A blind date. You complete a form, MK reads it, and when she believes she has a good match she arranges an evening drinks date in London and introduces you by email.
It is not an app, a website you browse, or a subscription. You do not see profiles and you do not choose your own match. Matching is MK’s personal judgement, which is the thing you are paying for.
3. Who can sign up
You must be 18 or over and able to enter into a contract.
Everything you put on the form must be true. Your age, what you are looking for and your dealbreakers are what MK matches on, and a match built on inaccurate answers wastes two people’s evening.
4. The fee
One date costs £35, payable up front by card on a secure page run by Stripe. You can also buy three, five or ten dates at once, which costs less per date. The prices are shown on the sign-up form. Your place is confirmed once the payment goes through, not when you submit the form.
What you are paying for is MK’s time reading your form and introducing you to someone. Buying several dates buys that many introductions; it does not buy a guaranteed timescale, or a particular kind of person.
If MK is unable to match you at all, contact her and she will sort it out. If you change your mind before a match has been made, ask and she will refund you. If you have bought several dates and want to stop part-way through, talk to her.
Drinks and anything else on the night are paid for by you and your date.
5. What we promise, and what we do not
MK will read your form personally, match on the basis of what you told her, and give you the arrangements in writing with a calendar invitation.
She cannot promise chemistry, a relationship, or that anyone is who they say they are. She matches on the answers people give her, and she cannot verify them.
She does not run background checks or identity verification on anyone signing up.
6. Meeting your date safely
You are meeting a stranger. Tell someone where you are going, stay in the venue MK has arranged, keep your own means of getting home, and leave whenever you want to. You are not obliged to stay, explain yourself, or share your contact details.
Contact details are exchanged only if both of you decide to, on the night or afterwards. MK does not pass them on for you.
If anything happens on a date that concerns you, tell MK. Behaviour that makes someone unsafe or uncomfortable means no further matches.
7. Changing or cancelling a date
Life happens and trains are delayed. Tell MK as early as you can and she will rearrange it.
Repeatedly cancelling at the last minute, or not turning up at all, means she may stop matching you. Someone else gave up their evening.
8. Your data
How your information is handled is set out in the privacy notice. In short, it is used to match you and for nothing else, it is never shared outside the service, and it is deleted whenever you ask.
9. Ending it
You can leave at any time by emailing MK, and she will remove you and your form response.
She may end it from her side if you break these terms, if information you gave was untrue, or if her judgement is that the service is not right for you.
10. Liability
MK is responsible for providing the service described here with reasonable care and skill. She is not responsible for the conduct of the people you are matched with, or for what happens on or after a date.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your rights as a consumer are unaffected.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
